Chasing Time

An excerpt from a short story I'm working on...

We walk along the beach, feeling the pebbles crunching underneath our feet, and there it is running toward us. I spread my arms out, bracing for the impact, but it goes right through me. Time is running away, threatening our corner of serenity. A ticking clock, never slowing down, always wreaking havoc. Every effort ends the same, never enough of it.

"Wait!" I call out, as I chase after it, trying to retrace its steps.

It pauses in front of my two loves as if it heard my plea. I see its minute hand reach out for my partner, the hour hand for my son. I join and the four of us stand together, remaining frozen in the moment where peace and chaos collide.
